Class 10 Detectives
The children in Class 10 became reading detectives today, using inference skills to investigate key characteristics about Hugh Glass, the protagonist of our new class text, 'The trapper who grappled with a grizzly.' We studied clues about Glass' life and work, including a very sharp saw, some old rope and a variety of tools, and then thought about what they might tell us. Some people have described the adventurer and former pirate as greedy and foolish whereas others argue that he was brave and heroic. We looked at evidence in the opening of the story to help us make up our own minds.
"He was a legendary figure." "Glass dodged and ducked to avoid her four-inch claws." "Life in the wilderness was brutal." "He knew the risks."
