Year 5/6 'Survivors'

The children in Class 9 and 10 completed their 'Survivors' project on Hugh Glass, the legendary nineteenth century fur trapper and adventurer, this week with a fantastic piece of writing, describing his terrifying encounter with a grizzly bear. We focused on varying the structures of our sentences and selecting verbs carefully for maximum impact on the reader. Considerable effort was put into editing our work to make it as exciting and relevant as possible. We also sketched the famous fur trapper and his fearsome nemesis. In guided reading, we explored facts about the American Grizzly and organised them into subheadings, using knowledge of subject-specific vocabulary.
